Monitoring of Drug Release

Monitoring of Drug Release

Monitoring of Drug Release

CD BioSciences is committed to developing multiple non-invasive imaging techniques and combining imaging agents based on nanomaterials to provide our clients with real-time monitoring of drug releases. The accurate, real-time and in-situ information we provide on drug release will contribute to elucidating the mechanisms of cellular uptake and guide the design of new drugs.

Background

Drug release has been an important topic in the field of biomedical research for decades. With advances in various design materials and engineering techniques, more and more novel materials are being introduced into the development of multifunctional drug delivery systems. Accurate detection of drug release is important to accurately target diseased tissue and provide reliable information to guide drug dosing and improve therapeutic efficiency.

Various novel materials such as micelles and inorganic nanoparticles are now widely used for drug release monitoring. Furthermore, the advancement of imaging techniques in the biophysical field offers the possibility of observing drug release and response in real-time. The right imaging modality and the appropriate contrast agent are key to visualizing the spatial distribution of drugs. Therefore, the development of high-resolution and ideal contrast agents using functionalized nanomaterials and making full use of different imaging technologies have great potential for real-time monitoring of drug release to promote the transformation of nano biomedicine in the treatment of human diseases.

Our Technology Platform

We have developed a variety of advanced imaging techniques including magnetic particle imaging (MPI), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) imaging, fluorescence imaging, photoacoustic imaging (PAI), ultrasound imaging (USI), and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for monitoring drug delivery and drug release. In addition, our researchers have established multimodal imaging to optimally integrate the benefits of different imaging modalities into a single drug delivery system.

Our Services

Our researchers are committed to using single or multiple different imaging technologies combined with imaging agents to provide our clients with spatiotemporal information about drug delivery systems and drugs, including the location, time and mode of drug release. Our drug release monitoring services provide clients with insight into drug uptake processes, biodistribution, pharmacokinetics and drug release kinetics. The services we provide include but are not limited to:

  • Fluorescence-based drug release monitoring.
    • Monitoring of drug release based on prodrug.
    • Monitoring of drug release based on macromolecules, such as polymeric nanoparticles, responsive polymers and micelles.
    • Monitoring of drug release based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs).
    • Monitoring of drug release based on quantum dots (QDs), such as carbon nanodots (CDots), silicon QDs (SiQDs), and Graphene QDs (GQDs).
    • Monitoring of drug release based on upconversion nanoparticles (UCNP).
  • MRI- or SERS imaging-based drug release monitoring.
  • Monitoring of drug release, distribution and metabolism by the combination of different techniques, such as multi-modal imaging analysis combining fluorescence imaging and mass spectrometry imaging.
