Analysis of Pollen Hydration

Cytological analysis revealed the dynamics of pollen tube pollination, but the potential molecular mechanism remains to be clarified. CD BioSciences is dedicated to helping clients analyze pollen hydration to gain insight into the mechanisms controlling pollen hydration. We are confident that we can be your reliable partner.

Background

Sexual reproduction is a complex series of events in angiosperms, regulated by a variety of physiological processes. Pollination is the key initial step in bringing together male and female gametophytes. Following pollen recognition, pollen hydration activates dry mature pollen grains for germination and tube elongation during the pollination process. From a morphological and cytological point of view, the transport of water from the pistil to the pollen is crucial to this process.

Water channel proteins are a highly conserved class of membrane intrinsic proteins that play an important role in regulating the flow of water molecules across membranes. The completion of the hydration process is a prerequisite for pollen germination, and the growth of pollen tubes is a rapid polar growth response. The study of the role of water channel proteins in pollen germination and pollen tube growth is important for understanding the control mechanism of pollen hydration.

Our Services

In conjunction with pollen viability assays and time-series imaging analysis of pollination, CD BioSciences offers pollen hydration analysis services to help clients explore the key players in water transport from papilla cell to pollen during pollination. Our services include, but are not limited to:

  • Pollen viability testing
We combine microscopy techniques with staining techniques to assess pollen viability by observing the number of stained and unstained pollen grains.
  • Semi-in vivo pollen tube growth test and in vivo observation of pollen tube growth
We combine microscopy techniques with digital image processing software to obtain useful information about the growth of pollen tubes.
  • Time-course imaging of pollen hydration
We record time-course images at 2-hour intervals by UV fluorescence microscopy to analyze the pollination behaviour of the pistil.
  • Time-lapse imaging of pollen hydration in vivo
We record time-lapse images of pollen behaviour during pollination to assess pollination behaviour in more detail.
