Development of Optical Biosensors for Infectious Disease Diagnosis

CD BioSciences is committed to helping customers develop a variety of optical biosensors to provide rapid and reliable results for the identification and quantification of disease-causing virus particles in samples. Our professional research team focuses on new technologies in the field of biosensors and develops their unique role in the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases, so as to accelerate the research progress of clients in biomedical aspects related to infectious diseases.

Background

Infectious diseases have long been a serious challenge for the global healthcare industry and have posed a serious risk to human life, health and socio-economic development worldwide. Traditional methods of virus detection include enzyme-based antibody assays and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based qualitative assays, viral isolation and microscopy-based immunofluorescence. These techniques require long turnaround times. Therefore, rapid, reliable and reproducible diagnostic methods are essential for identifying pathogens in patients' body fluids.

As one of the most widely researched and used and rapidly developing sensor types, biosensors offer an easy-to-use, straightforward, multiplexed and real-time method for rapid detection of viruses, with specificity and sensitivity. In the last decade or so, with the development of MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) technology and advances in materials processing and biomedical technology, biosensors have improved greatly in terms of sensitivity, response speed and stability. Moreover, the integration of smart nanomaterials in biosensors provides more sensitive and highly advanced sensors that can provide useful information quickly for the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.

Our Strategies

We combine knowledge from multiple fields including microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), microelectronics, nanotechnology, and molecular biology to design new ways to build instant optical diagnostic sensing systems for a variety of pathogens. Our research focuses on developing the method of integrating single analyte, multi-analyte with bio core microfluidic equipment. At present, we have developed several optical sensor systems for the detection of bacterial and viral markers. The development services we offer include but are not limited to:

  • Development of colorimetric sensors.
  • Development of fluorescence/chemiluminescence-based approaches.
  • Development of surface plasmon-based approaches.
  • Development of photonic sensors.
  • Development of nanomaterial-based biosensors.

We help our customers to develop the above-mentioned biosensors for the optical detection of a wide range of viruses, including the following:

  • COVID-19
  • Middle east respiratory syndrome (MERS)
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
  • Influenza
  • Hepatitis
  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
  • HPV
  • Zika
  • Herpes simplex virus
  • Chikungunya
  • Dengue
  • Rotavirus
